ONDO SOUTH SENATORIAL SEAT: I SHALL HEED THIS CLARION CALL TO SERVE WITH HUMILITY AND A HIGH SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY.
Twenty four years ago - 2002, I offered myself to represent the south senatorial district in the National Assembly. Rather than participate in a run- off election as the rules of the PDP required at that time, i declined and allowed late Senator H.O .Ehinlanwo to represent the party without further election, the prodding to the contrary notwithstanding .
And now, In the last four months, there is a strong and loud clamour for me to present myself for service as senator for the district under the auspices of our great party , the APC.
I am totally humbled and overwhelmed by these calls from leaders, women and youth groups who have formed themselves into volunteers without my prior consent and approval. The more I pretend not to see or hear , the louder the clamour gets.
I am deeply inspired by the overwhelming outpouring of support and the readiness to go all the way with me and reinforcing my steady belief that, together we can open the gateway to a new multi-ethnic and multi- cultural coalition of conscience forged by a shared commitment to make governance at the centre felt, accessible and truly responsive to the aspirations of Ondo South Senatorial district and the entire Sunshine state.
In the recent days , I have subjected these calls to very deep contemplation and meditation and consulted with some selected leaders, family and friends. I have been clearly told that I must courageouly heed the historic and unusual call and offer myself for service and not disappoint the altruists, who believe in my ability, competence and integrity.
My political journey has been embodied by fearless representation as Minority leader in the old Ondo State House of Assembly, advanced people centred leadership as Secretary to Ondo state government, Attorney General and commissioner for Justice and Commissioner for Works, lands & housing ; led the pioneering work of building our great party, APC, into an electoral as the State Chairman; consolidating over the last four years as Zonal Chairman/ National Vice-Chairman, Southwest .
This then is my declaration: After consulting with the Governor of the state who is the leader of the party and other leaders , I have decided to take up the gaunletI . I shall seek the ticket of our great party for the senatorial election and I shall when I win, give to the senatorial district fair, fearless,
,quality and needs- driven representation. I shall be a voice for Ondo south, Ondo state , her government and the people and I shall do so with humility and a high sense of duty and responsibility.
I am ready to serve again, if our people will send me.
I say here I am. I urge the good people of Ondo south to hold firmly to the confession of our hope for visible and tangible representation in Abuja without wavering.
Hon D. I. Kekemeke Ph.D BL
