In a statement released and signed by Adegoroye himself, he expressed disappointment over a viral media report accusing him and other high-profile leaders—both serving and former ministers—of mounting pressure on the Governor over cabinet appointments.

“It is absolutely false that I, directly or indirectly, tried to influence the governor’s cabinet list,” Adegoroye declared.

He clarified that since Aiyedatiwa assumed office—first as Acting Governor and later as the substantive Governor on December 27, 2023—he has not enjoyed any political privileges nor holds any resentment toward the Governor for this.

Citing a specific instance, Adegoroye recalled that his nominee for Chairman of Oyemekun LCDA, originally approved under Governor Akeredolu, was downgraded to Vice Chairman by the current administration—despite verbal assurances from Governor Aiyedatiwa. Nevertheless, he chose not to take offense, emphasizing his commitment to supporting the Governor and the party.

He also noted that even when over 300 Special Assistants (SAs) were appointed by the Governor in the lead-up to the November 2024 governorship election, he was not allotted a single nomination slot. “If I couldn’t nominate an SA, it would be self-deceit to think I could lobby for commissioner appointments,” he added.

Adegoroye found it troubling that the media also reported some former appointees under late Governor Akeredolu are lobbying for positions in the new cabinet. He stressed that Ondo State is rich with competent professionals who deserve the chance to serve, and urged the party to promote equal opportunity and merit-based appointments.

In closing, he called on political leaders to allow Governor Aiyedatiwa the freedom to choose capable individuals who align with his vision and whom he can confidently work with.

“The Governor bears the ultimate responsibility for his administration. Therefore, he should be free from undue pressure or interference in choosing his team,” he concluded.
